Weddings In Vanuatu

Unlike in the movies, the P&O ship Captains can't officiate at a wedding ceremony. Couples wanting a wedding as part of a cruise will have to plan it for while the ship is in a port of call, and the best Pacific destination is Vanuatu. For marriages in New Caledonia to be legally recognised, couples have to be resident there for over 30 days.

We can, however, organise renewal of vows or devotion ceremonies in Noumea at Le Meridien resort for passengers, including transfers, flowers etc and a celebration lunch. In Fiji, couples have to attend the registry office in person, so it's not a simple matter of being whisked away from the ship to the ceremony location.

In Vanuatu, the couple can be met at the ship, taken to a romantic location, legally be married (often by the Lord Mayor of Port Vila) and dropped back to the ship or a restaurant or take in some sightseeing. We can also organise transfers for guests as well as things to do following the ceremony. On the legal side, couples need to fax copies of their birth certificates, passports, divorce papers if applicable and a Vanuatu Intention to Marry form to us at least four weeks prior to the wedding. We can email you the Intention to Marry form and a form for witnesses. If you don't have your own witnesses, we can provide these.

We have some romantic locations - on a beach, in tropical gardens or on an island. Erakor Island Resort suits some couples with guests. It's five minutes from the wharf and five minutes across the lagoon on the ferry. Couples can choose a beach location or the historic 19th century open-air chapel and then celebrate in the resort restaurant.

With group bookings all guests are given on board credit as part of their package, which is great to use in the casino or bar. And if the bride and groom have enough friends and family book the cruise they can also get free credits to use on a reception party back on board after the wedding that evening. Private functions on board can be arranged (depending on number of guests).
